Victoria is the Director of Business Operations for the University of Maryland Medical Center. With an undergraduate degree from Penn State in Health Policy and Administration and an MBA from Loyola University, Victoria runs almost every aspect of business at the hospital, from scheduling surgeries to purchasing medical equipment.

>> My name is Vicki Stewart and I'm a graduate of the HPA Program from Penn State in 1989 and I work at University of Maryland Medical Center as the director of business operations for perioperative services, which high level, we manage 36 operating rooms and six endoscopy suites. So, perioperative services include all of the areas surrounding that - the recovery unit, the inpatient units, central sterile processing, and the operating rooms. So, I make sure that the surgeons and the clinicians have the supplies, instruments, equipment and information that they need and handle the business side of the operation so that they can focus on the patient. I have some clinical informaticians, nurses, that work for me. We manage the information system. That includes surgical scheduling, nursing documentation, billing. We manage what are called preference cards, which are basically recipe cards for how each surgeon is going to do each type of procedure that they need. That outlines all of the supplies, equipment and instrumentation that they need; patient positioning, preparation, what kind of music they like, all of the specifics of the case, and so we maintain that information. I have 100 million dollar expense budget, 2/3 of that are supplies, it's a very supply and equipment intensive area, so I manage the supply chain for that area. I also procure all of the capital equipment of the area, it's a very intensive area related to equipment. We have 17 surgical services that range from urology, transplant, cardiac surgery, GYN, thoracic surgery, vascular, there's really not much that we don't do.
